What happens at my teeth whitening appointment?

At your teeth whitening appointment we use Phillips Zoom, which is a product that is popular and used across Australia and around the world to lighten the tooth enamel and dentin. The reason you may have discolouration in your teeth can be because of coffee, tea, red wine, smoking or soft drinks. However as you age your teeth naturally stain.

The in-chair whitening process consists of using a chairside lamp which bleaches your teeth and activates the hydrogen peroxide. Teeth whitening can give some people tooth sensitivity.

Before your tooth whitening appointment it is recommended you see the dentist before and have a full examination because you will need to address other issues you may have before getting your whitening. At this same appointment the dentist will take impressions of your teeth and make a special tray that will fit your teeth. These trays need to be worn at home with a small amount of whitening gel placed inside the tray.  You can expect to see at least 5-10 shades of improvement in a visit that is completed in just over an hour. Before applying the whitening agent on the surface of your teeth the dentist will protect your gums so that they are not affected by the treatment.
