What is a Tooth? What is it Made Of?
Have you ever wondered what a tooth is and what it’s made of?
Most humans have 32 teeth in total (this includes your 4 wisdom teeth). A tooth is made up of basically 3 layers. The outside layer being the hardest and whitest layer is called enamel. It is made up of mainly made of calcium phosphate
The second layer (underneath the enamel), it is more yellowish in colour and has multiple microscopic tubules. When the enamel is damaged or missing, any stimulus such as heat or cold can enter these tubules and cause tooth sensitivity
The inner layer is also known as the nerve of the tooth, it is a much softer structure in comparison to the other layers and it is made up of blood vessels and nerves. This is the part of the tooth that is removed when you are having a root canal treatment due to presence of infection.
